Eastern Bluebird sitting on a tree limb

The Eastern Bluebird is a gentle and observant songbird often seen across Minnesota and much of the central and Eastern United States in open fields, meadows, and along fence lines where it watches from low perches. It feeds mainly on insects during warmer months, shifting to berries when food becomes scarce. Known for its calm behavior, it readily uses nest boxes and has benefited from conservation across its range. It is often confused with the Western Bluebird, which has a bit more dramatic color contrast, but is not found in Minnesota.
