The Red Tailed Hawk lives in deserts, Forests, grasslands, farmland, suburbs, and even near cities. The best way to find a Red Tailed Hawk is to go for a drive, watching out for fence posts, and the sky; chances are good that the first Hawk you see will be a Red Tail. They’re the most common hawk in North America, and one the largest. As with most Raptors, the female is larger than the male, (in this case 1/3 larger). One possible reason for this is that the female needs to be able to protect her young as well as defend herself. The male, on the other hand, needs to be swift and maneuverable on the hunt.
